We created this app to help children at UK schools whose first language is not English. It works by simply enabling children to translate basic vocabulary from their mother tongue. Children with limited literacy can develop their Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) by navigating the app using a combination of illustrations and text to find the audio content they need. The app includes the everyday vocabulary that a child needs in the course of their school day such as: - Numbers - Letters - Colours - Classroom - Subjects - Outside - Directions - Shapes and sizes - Food - Drink - Family and friends - People and weather - Seasons The audio can be slowed down to allow the child to listen carefully and repeat. Repeatedly hearing sounds and pronunciations enables the child s brain to adapt to sound patterns.
